Food update
We tested several kitten food brands, as you probably remember. Every kitten and Masseeka ended up obsessed with Petco’s Whole Hearted pate. We mince it with a splash of water, and it’s perfect. The other versions (minced, morsels, etc.) are basically the same thing but watered down with broth, so there’s no point choosing them when you can just get the dense pate and adjust the texture yourself. We also give them small amounts of dry Purina Fancy Feast Kitten — mostly as a w

Tick and Flea Treatment
I wanted to make this post a while ago, I even had a photo ready. Yes, all three of my adult cats were treated for ticks and fleas when they were brought to our place. If you remember, Ryzyk was the first one, and he stayed alone in the “cat room” for a bit. Masseeka joined him about a week later, and it took us roughly two more weeks to finally catch Shy. We bought Revolution Plus for all of them because it covers multiple issues street cats can have - you can see the list o

Playpen(s)
As you probably noticed in the videos, we changed some things in our “cat room,” just trying to make it more convenient to clean as the kittens grow. As you know, we started with the nest in a small playpen, which served as Masseeka’s condo from the very beginning. Ryzyk is free in the room and somewhat in the house if he feels like exploring. We are coordinating them in a way that they do not bump into each other with Baker. As for why Masseeka was locked for the night - we

The tiny potato growth chronicles
So here’s the full month-long chart of how our little gremlins have been growing. You can really see the rhythm of kitten life in there: the glorious “stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey” days, and the modest “eh, I guess I’ll have a snack” days. On those lighter days we kept an eye on whoever decided to be the loafiest eater, making sure the smallest warrior still got their fair share of the milk bar. Yesterday was… peculiar. Several of them dipped a bit in weight, which made

Eating progress
Great news: everyone is growing beautifully. Yesterday we got a little worried about the brown tiger - he only gained 2 grams compared to the previous day. At this age kittens normally put on 8 - 12 grams per day. A smaller gain is fine if it happens once in a while, but weight loss is a red flag. We kept an eye on the tiger all day, and he was eating perfectly well. Today he delivered a solid +8 grams. Mystery solved: the little trouble-seeker is burning extra calories fight

Masseeka’s updated menu
Lactating kitty needs 2-3 times more calories than usual. Kitten food works great because it is richer in protein, fat and all the nutrients a nursing mom burns through like a tiny milk‑producing factory. We also bought kitten formula, thinking we might need it for the smallest baby. Turns out the kitten didn’t need it - but Masseeka absolutely does! She slurps it like it’s her personal Starbucks latte. And honestly, it is good for lactating cats… just not every cat likes the

Kitty acne
Yup, they can get it too! Nothing to worry about if it's minor and they don't scratch it. Ryzyk had it. Best cure? Throw away plastic bowls! Even if you wash them daily, plastic still collects some food residue, bacteria, oils and such in tiny dents and scratches - just like old plastic cutting boards, only less visible and not that obvious. When your kitty eats from the plastic bowl, the chin rubs against that plastic, over and over, which eventually leads to kitty acne. It

Scent tricks
How do you tell your cat not to scratch certain things (walls, furniture) and use the scratch post or cat house instead? Like many other cats, Baker the Beast hates the scent of citruses and Lysol wipes, lemon or original. Whenever he tries to scratch the couch we place either a wet wipe there or orange/lemon peels. It works! He loses interest. Doesn't mean he will not try it in a couple of months, but the same trick will work again, tested. Now, the rule is - you cannot simp

Food preferences
Our gang eats a wide variety of foods. Not everyone likes smooth pate, but everyone eats shreds/bits. Dry Iams is a hit too, but we don't give more than 1/3 - 1/2 cup to each of them and always make sure they drink enough water. Baker is a big drinker, Ryzyk is good at staying hydrated too, but Masseeka once wolfed down slightly too much kibble and vomited. Nothing dramatic, it happens more often with pregnant kitties. We limit the amount of dry food she eats and encourage he
