Food update

We tested several kitten food brands, as you probably remember. Every kitten and Masseeka ended up obsessed with Petco’s Whole Hearted pate. We mince it with a splash of water, and it’s perfect. The other versions (minced, morsels, etc.) are basically the same thing but watered down with broth, so there’s no point choosing them when you can just get the dense pate and adjust the texture yourself.
We also give them small amounts of dry Purina Fancy Feast Kitten — mostly as a way to help brush their sharp little teeth. Fun fact: a cat’s tongue is covered in tiny, rough barbs that naturally clean the inner surfaces of their teeth, so they really only need something crunchy to help with the outer parts. That usually happens when they eat harder‑textured food. Other than that, there’s no real reason to feed kibbles, so we only use them as an add‑on or a treat.
Cats don’t naturally drink much, since they come from desert ancestors. Dry food requires extra water intake, and without it, it can lead to health issues, especially with kidneys or the urinary tract. The only cat I know who drinks like a dog is Baker - and even he mostly eats Fancy Feast cans.
And yes, Churu is a big hit with all our cats.
