Shy domestication progress

It's a little over a week since Shy had surgery and was brought to our house. And yesterday something genuinely fun happened.
Early in the morning he heard us heading to the kitty room to feed Masseeka and check on the kittens. On the way back we suddenly heard: "I'm alone!" Not an angry or dominant-male meow, just a normal voice. If you've ever listened to Kiffness' song, you know exactly what it sounds like:
When mom entered the half-bath (his temporary room) with a bowl, he greeted her with his usual hiss, but didn't hide. She placed the bowl right in front of him and he immediately started eating. She touched him and he actually let her pet him all the way down his back!
Today he hasn't hissed at all! He only talks to mom in his normal voice when she comes in to feed him or clean his litter box. And he doesn’t hide anymore. A big step! It shows he’s feeling more at ease, and he’s probably completely healed from the surgery by this point.
Yes, befriending a stray takes a lot of time and patience — but it feels amazing when they finally start trusting you.
